I think the general reaction relates to the fact that you're talking about disaster recovery (DR). In a DR situation it's particularly important to rely only on simple, repeatable procedures that work in as many situations as possible.
So, in this case, what happens when (it's not if) you have to recover to a site that doesn't have your customized OS/2-based HMC?
