My major customer recently went through similar - but with STK. Exacerbates the issue. All the old stand-alone kit came off support, and was returned to the vendor. But 2 new (as in refurb'd) drives were purchased to handle 3480/90 carts - these are located at the main site (only), where real live operators still while away the passing hours. Minor chance of data exhange made it worthwhile. Most vendor data I pull electronically where I have the option.
There may also be DR implications if you use an external provider - shouldn't matter these days, but you'd better check. Shane ... My question is, do vendors (IBM and CA > mostly) offer products on 3592 format or are we going to have problems > if we get rid of the 3480 drives and try to order new software?
