I've been kinda following this, and it leaves me with a question: Can a
PDS even exist beyond track 65535? The directory entries are 0TTR, not
TTTR, right?

Yes, a PDS can exist beyond track 65535. The 0TTR value in the directory
is relative to the begining of the dataset, not the volume.
