SHARE does not discourage speakers from distributing paper handouts; it just doesn't want to incur the cost of printing them. IMO, "going green" was a convenient spin to justify the policy change. So the "green" does not mean eco-friendly but rather refers to the color of the FERNs [1] being saved? What about providing copiers that are not free? You copy your paper and pay for how many pages you copied. SHARE could still be non-profit if they computed the charge per page properly. Or instead of a copier there could be a page in the final agenda (is that still being printed? how much paper is wasted on that thing?) with directions to all the retail stores nearby which have pay-per-use copiers (Kinko's, e.g.).
