Given the user surly nature of some of the systems that I have seen
and some of the interesting abend situations, I don't know that the
mainframe platform is much better.  One of the main reasons that many
using departments went to non-mainframe was the perceived lack of
support and cooperation from "IT".  Getting problems fixed in some
organizations was worse than dealing with Microsoft.   Having used
PROFs and the CICS based replacement for e-mail, I find even Outlook
far superior (I use Agent 4.x).
