invoke a set of routines that will usually execute at least several thousand
other instructions, possibly tens or hundreds of thousands, and you'll never
notice any difference that might exist.


There is also the issue of using a BALR (or BASR) in lieu of instructions that do not need Base Registers (ie: Not allowing the macro to be used in a BASELESS program).
