Mark's right. While new software is often required to support *new*
features, it's not required to support *older* hardware. Going from a
z9 BC to a z800 is going from newer technology to older technology, and
the z800 is supported by all supported releases of z/OS.

Of course, I hate to see anyone move backward. But the z/OS software
level is not an obstacle to doing so, though if one has taken advantage
of new hardware-dependent functions it would be necessary to
"un-exploit" them.
