I use gmail. I'm am subscribed 3 times here: at work (this address), at home via my ISP, and via gmail (which I read on my tablet). Gmail is "universal". If you don't like gmail, there are many other independent businesses which will sell you an email address and a way to retrieve it (usually via Web, IMAP, or POP3).
