But I'd ask: Why zeroes? That seems to be asking for problems like this. I'd 
have chosen DEADBEEF or FFFFFFFF or 12345678: more likely to be useful if 
something is misbehaving.

Not too late to change that, actually...

I covered this in a "Bit Bucket" at SHARE right after z/OS V2R5 first came out 
4+ years ago.

Since they are no longer used, all of the old ESA/390 8-byte PSWs in the PSA 
were set to zeros starting in z/OS V2R5.

General cleanup...
