Yes, yes, and yes. We had 4 4341s back at University of Waterloo, running VM on 
Adesse SSI, supporting 20,000 students. That was a fun time. 4341s looked like 
several dishwashers (or maybe more washing machines) next to each other. 

As did the 3350s, kinda. We gave a high school class a data center tour once. 
One of the kids thought it would be funny to flip the R/O switch on a 3350. 
System did not appreciate being unable to write to its page space...

4341 definitely laid on its side.  Worked at a site in 1983 that had two 4341s, 
shared SPOOL and MVS SP 1.x (again).  If I remember correctly, there was a 
direct connection for the console.  I was told that the 3090s used 43xx for the 
processor controller.  The same person told me that the 308x used 8100s for the 
processor controller.
