I think the idea was put the mdisk on Maint and then have all the linux link to it, similar to SFS (which I've not used).

If your Linux guy just needs some place to store the "VM stuff" for his Linux guest images, I would suggest using the Share File System (SFS). Linux guests that use the same set of IMAGE, INITRD, and PARM files could share one copy of them, stored in an SFS directory; you would not need to have multiple copies of these files stored on multiple minidisks, one per Linux guest. You could save some some DASD space, and make administering these files a bit simpler. Different sets of these Linux install files could also be stored in the SFS, each set in its own SFS directory.
