I typically set up a common machine that all of the Linux systems link to as their 191. It contains the Linux machine's PROFILE EXEC, other common files as needed and the installation files.

Hi, Anne.

If your Linux guy just needs some place to store the "VM stuff" for his Linux guest images, I would suggest using the Share File System (SFS). Linux guests that use the same set of IMAGE, INITRD, and PARM files could share one copy of them, stored in an SFS directory; you would not need to have multiple copies of these files stored on multiple minidisks, one per Linux guest. You could save some some DASD space, and make administering these files a bit simpler. Different sets of these Linux install files could also be stored in the SFS, each set in its own SFS directory.

Have a good weekend.

What Kind of VM stuff are we talking about here?
The Linux image's 191 disk that runs the PROFILE EXEC to create the swap
space and then IPL the Linux Image

This sort of stuff?

The guy who does Linux wants to put the "VM stuff" he needs when he
installs a linux instance on there. So, I guess the answer is no, it
won't be z/linux formatted. It will just be a CMS disk.

What do you want? Do you expect your z/Linux guests to ACCESS it as a
CMS disk? In essence, you already have what you want. Is it to be
z/Linux formatted?

    Subject: DASD question

I have a mod 3 that is known to VM:

DASD 1472 LX1472 I want it to be a mdisk on MAINT and have all my linux instances
link to it.

    I formatted LX1472 with CPFMTXA.

It is not in the User_Volume_List but I added it for next ipl.

I tried attaching 1472 to SYSTEM, but when I try to access the
vdev 1472, it says it's in OS format.

Can someone give me the steps to add this dasd like I want to??
