z/OS has a RECEIVE FROMNETWORK command in SMP/E that automatically downloads maintenance from a remote server. All you need are about 2 snippets of XML they send you when your order is ready for download and a place to store the data it retrieves. It might be nice if there was something similar for z/VM. Simple as another SERVICE command that would
do the download and deterse for you. It isn't that the current process is difficult, just a bit confusing the very first time through. Anything to simplify this for future users would be a decent idea in my mind.
