If this is your understanding of the capabilities of Nagios and Hobbit, then you need to take another look, minus the attitude and blinders. Both offer the ability to conduct active testing of an application outside of the application host without an agent installed on the application host, as well as a library of pre-built and user-contributed application test modules.
