Yeah, sorry about that...but you only have to change the IP addressing for 4-5 z/OS guests and not the entire 30-40 systems.

Also, as DB has suggested, bitch to IBM about why z/OS doesn't support the necessary connectivity options.

Hi Dave,
I dreaded you were going to say that. The problem with routing is that I
will have to change all our z/OS systems away from our default IP
addressing system that has been in use for years and which I like and am
comfortable with!!!.

All our mainframe systems, 30 + , are all 10.0.40.???.
Wot a pain. Thanks for the advice.

Hi, Crispin.

OK, I didn't know that, thanks. So yes, you will need to create a guest
LAN to attach your z/OS guests to, and then route that guest LAN over to

a VSWITCH that provides network access outside of the VM box. You might
consider using the VM tcp/ip server for the router function.

Hello Dave,
According to z/VM 5.4 Connectivity manual

IPv6 Considerations When planning to deploy an IPv6 virtual switch
configuration that will have external connectivity, the virtual switch
must operate in Ethernet mode. Ethernet mode is supported by TCP/IP
for
z/VM, zLinux and DIAG X'2A8'. For more information on DIAG X'2A8' see
z/VM: CP Programming Services. Ethernet mode is not supported by z/OS
which precludes it from this configuration. Configurations requiring
z/OS and IPv6 can deploy an IP mode guest LAN with a router virtual
machine providing external connectivity through the Ethernet mode
virtual switch or directly through an OSA-Express feature (dedicated
device).

Hi, Crispin.

No, I don't believe you can connect a guest LAN to az VSWITCH with
using

virtual machine acting as a router.

Are you sure that IPv6 requires the VSWITCH to be in ETHERNET mode?

Can I connect/attach a guest LAN to a VSWITCH without routing? If so,
HOW

I want to connect 4-5 z/OS systems using IPV4 and IPV6 to each other
and to the outer world. I believe that IPV6 requires ETHERNET on
VSWICTH but z/OS don't like that and needs to use Guest LAN. Guest
LAN don't talk to outside world without being routed.
