>>> At the risk of starting it all over, Gudmar's name did come up from the TV interview he gave a couple of weeks ago that produced quite the barrage about mis-information and he has been targeted several times about his age and his opinions on SE etc.
Sorry, but I think the relative experience of a trainer IS relevant when considering what they have to say, both in mere age and in the kinds of horsemanship they've encountered. I don't hold age against Gudmar any more than I have when considering...say, Clinton Anderson, who's also very young. It is a legitimate point to think about. Just one point, granted, but a legitimate one. Horsemen are made over time - at least that's how I see it. Some catch on earlier than others, and some never do "catch on" in any way I see as meaningful, so obviously age isn't the only factor we should consider. But all things being equal, I prefer to study with someone who's been studying a facet of horsemanship longer than I have. As for Gudmar's opinions on SE, that's one of the few specific things I can comment on about Gudmar, and his attitude on that subject troubles me. It's on his website, and if someone goes to the trouble to put something in writing for the public to see, then they've probably put some thought into it. But, on the other hand, I've also always kept in mind Anneliese's Valur (only one horse mind you, but a very nice one) when I think about him. I don't know any trainer that is perfect, and we certainly DO talk about the pros and cons of Parelli, Anderson, dressage (all forms) so I don't see a problem at all with mentioning Gudmar's age and stance on SE. They are two parts that make up what he is - today.
