Ten teams are on hand at the Naval Academy in Annapolis contesting the 2010
Shields Trophy Regatta, Intercollegiate Sailing's Big Boat Service Academy
Championship. This is the first regatta to be sailed aboard Navy's new MK2
44' sloops.

Despite a dismal wind forecast, PRO Fred Dersch was able to run four races in
light breeze that started at 350 and veered around throughout the day settling
in at 075 never becalming the fleet.

California Maritime Academy got off to a great start winning the first race
convincingly followed by a second and another bullet before suffering a 6th,
Navy scrambled in the first race to overcome an OCS to take a third which they
followed with a 1 then a tough 5 and then another first to finish the day tied
with Cal for the lead. Coast Guard posted a consistent 2,4,4,2 in the
challenging conditions to grab third position, two points back.

Racing continues tomorrow with a forecast for stronger breeze.
