Ten teams are on hand in Annapolis to contest the 2011 Shields Trophy Regatta at Navy.
The event is being sailed aboard the Academy's new MK2 44s on windward/leeward courses. PRO Fred Dertsch and his race committee managed 4 races in northeasterly winds that varied between 7 and 12 knots under overcast skies. The Navy Team started strong and sailed to a solid 1,1,3,1 to end the day 9 points ahead of Mass Maritime who posted a 3,2,4,6. KP finished the day strong and lies 3rd one point back with a scoreline of 6,7,1,2. Three races are scheduled for Sunday and the forecast of more breeze should not disappoint. 1. Navy 1,1,3,1 6 2.
