Dear Friends, Though I am not quite regular on this list these days, I read it often. I've been following the recent discussion on reviving the group. As one of the earliest member in the list I just want to make some comments regarding its evolution.
In late 90s when this group started, we were handful but we met regularly in a physical place far away from city, thanks to people like CVR and KKS. We worked virtually and physically. As volunteers we conducted several public events. Free software community in trivandrum was instrumental in many important changes in Kerala with regards to free software. Lately we have gone virtual and more of a self help group. While those forms of action are not bad in itself, they are not sufficient. May be we just need a Kerala wide mail list for that matter. Trivandrum in the name comes from a physical geography. Can we come back to the real physical world too ? Can we meet up ? Hey friends 'real world' is much coooler. Some more specific issues. 1. Name change to LUG There was a suggestion to change the name from FSUG to LUG. Please note that change of name to FSUG was made by members based on lot of discussions. Let us not go back to LUG just for the sake of domain name. 2. Website Since there are some volunteers to take the maintenance of website, I assume Zyxware will share site management responsibility to some of these volunteers. This will resolve the immediate website issue. 3. Film Screening Ganesh was proposing a collective screening of the movie 'The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz'. Shall we do a late evening screening with BBQs! (Hope the rain will not disrupt ?) We propose two location, rooftop of building rented by SPACE in the evening (free, with volunteer cooked, shared food) or Museum auditorium where more people can come. May be this can help us kick started again. Hey Daniel, your work is really nice. I hope you will put more effort toward freedom furthering and community based initiatives in the place of videos on Ubuntu. Some of these distros hurt the movement more than they help. with warm regards arun On Wed, Aug 20, 2014 at 04:18:09AM -0700, Danial José wrote: > *Reminder 4* > > -- -- "Freedom is the only law".
