You have LL user in both systems, redhat8 & fedora, username is undoubtly same but the uid & gids will be different.
So what i recommend you, you make sure both the systems have same uid & gid edit /etc/password & /etc/group of both systems
redhat 8 & fedora. And then mount(with rw option) any partion persmission will be intact.
Hope this can help!

dear all,
two partitions, assume:
hdc7 contains RedHat8 hdc9 contains Fedora
in each, i have /home/LL/ for the same-named user, LL, for each release.
when i am under Fedora, i have mounted hdc7 as follows: /mnt/RH8
okay, so while logged in as the user LL under Fedora, I wish to access the home directories and sub-directories of LL under /mnt/RH8/home/LL
but i can't. it's locked. i can only do that as root. how can i access this as LL under Fedora? especially when i am doing this thru gui-based software, e.g saving a file thru openoffice, or trying to access a file thru sodipodi or something?
please help.
:-) LL
