I've been listening to the re-released
Uncle Tupelo CDs a lot this summer. Indeed, "Befriended"
is about the only CD right now that can prompt me
to pry Uncle Tupelo out of the player. They write and
sing in utterly different idioms, but Karen Peris and
Jay Farrar sit at the top of my personal pantheon of
singer-songwriters along with Robyn Hitchcock and that
guy with something caught in his throat, Bob Dylan.
