Hi,
Quite simple to do.  Remove the bottom plastic piece (one screw and pull it
off).  Disconnect the monitor cable (it's about an inch wide). Plug in an older
Mac monitor (or a VGA/SVGA with an adapter - to convert the connection from 15
pins in two rows to 15 pins in three rows).  If you only have a VGA/SVGA
monitor, let me know and I'll mail you an adapter.  The zap noise makes it
sound like your monitor died, not the power supply.  I am running an iMac rev B
"headless" now.
