Not necessarily so. Adaptec DirectCD�  used to be included with Toast 
for the Mac (in some versions before MacOS X came to the market), as 
a separate program. It's purpose was to provide UDF (Universal Disk 
Format) access on Data CDs for the Macintosh. By using this format 
one could write and erase files on a Data CD much as one would to a 
diskette, Zip Drive, etc. I used a patch on version 1.0.5 to allow it 
to recognize my then new Yamaha 8 4 24. It still functions well under 
MacOS 9.2.2 running as the main system.
