My iMac has been a good and reliable little station for nearly 3 years---in
that time, I've maxed its RAM, followed its upgrade path, and added as many
USB peripherals as it could sustain. It served its desktop publishing
purpose well, and I will continue to use it as a backup station... I agree,
it comes down to how your station handles a given work load, but also HOW
QUICKLY you can troubleshoot/upgrade the hardware... Frankly, it's a PAIN IN
THE NECK to crack the box on an iMac for any reason. When I can add 512mb of
memory to the G4 Tower in 6 SECONDS, but it takes 25 minutes to add iMac
memory, I have to acknowledge that the iMac's compact footprint is more of a
novelty than a working advantage.
