The public good? That's funny, I rather thought it was considered that
protecting the private interests of the copyright holders WAS in order to
benefit the public good by ensuring that artists were paid a fair
remuneration for their creative talents and output.

I would agree with many who believe that CD prices, book prices and DVD
prices are too high and there is a level of profiteering taking place by the
publishers. But stealing is not the solution - customer refusal to purchase
at the full retail prices is the only way. While wholesale downloading of
copyrighted works is taking place, the publishers have a perfect alibi for
why CD sales are declining.
