Yes and no. Although most USB devices work with 8.6, you'd better use OS
9.x. 8.6 is notorious for it's bad USB support.

I've never had any problems with the Sony Spressa CD-RW drive or a Gravis GamePad Pro under 8.6.


NO. Who told you that? USB booting has been introduced with the
slot-loading iMacs and AGP G4s. See <http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n58430>

Allen your FP iMac _can_ boot from USB and FW devices.

Since the Bondi is a tray loader, USB booting isn't possible then? There goes my idea of using it in an emergency. Still having USB on an external drive would make it's usability range broader.
