As for the syndrome, I can probably see that. My whole family except
for my brother and I are pack rats. It was bad enough before, but
the expensive hardware pack ratting is a tad much. I can understand
him keeping the oldest of the computers around, as they will most
likely be considered real collector's items in the days to come.
However, buying everything G3-G5 isn't the best move.

I do not recall seeing you say what age your father is. I'm thinking
about this as a non-professional. Whether he is 50 or 80 could make a
difference in what you do. (I am 70.) I agree that there is some kind
of syndrome at play, particularly in light of your previous comment
about the condition of clutter on the desk and the floor. That you
asked for help in this list is good. Consider whether he fends for
himself wisely and safely in all other respects. Perhaps you should
further seek help from a professional advisor face to face,
particularly if you see yourself becoming responsible for his welfare
in the future.
