It's the full retail 9.1 installer disc with everything on it. The
instructions on the disc basically amount to 'put it in and run the
installer.' As I hope is clear by now I really want more detail. BTW
that Macintouch.com page people keep referring me to just lists the
contents of the upgrade and some conflicts, it doesn't give any specific
instructions.

I agree completely. I do want to back up my files... in fact that's how
this whole mess started. The problem is that I can't seem to find a
USB/FW cd burner that will work with OS 9.0. Everything I've found so
far requires at least 9.1 (Well actually I did get a used Iomega burner
that worked, but it died after one use!) So I seem to be in the classic
catch-22 where I can't backup until I upgrade but can't upgrade until I
backup.
Now if anyone here can recommend a reliable USB/FW cd or dvd burner that
will work on 9.0 my problem would be solved. I'd prefer a burner to an
external HD simply because I'm on a budget and a burner is a far, far
better value for my limited cash.
