The important one is the 4.1.9 firmware update. If you *don't* install
it and try to upgrade your OS, the video will be killed (see
<http://www.macintouch.com/panfirmware.html>). I have a 600 MHz
slot-loading iMac too (Graphite), and I am so glad I installed the
firmware update long before it was necessary because I was just bored
one day.
