I have also found that Sportster modems have bad fax performance, esp counterproductive if you do mass faxing.  The old Zyxel 1496 modems have excellent fax capability ime, and GFI people will concur.

Are you thinking FAX???   If you are then I'll agree.  I tried using a USR Sportster 14.4 with a Fax Program by GFI (From England) and it was terrible.  Ended up using a MultiTech 33.6 and it is flawless with sending/receiving faxs
