Free PC's: That's a marketing gimmick invented by others that Microsoft is
simply "matching the deal" just like the neighborhood stereo store that says
"we will not be undersold.."

AOL (aka CompuServe) is heavily marketing it, so is eMachines now and
several others.

No, what makes them evil is the stinkin "Get a free computer by signing up
for MSN for 3 years" scam. Which should be illegal. Not because it unfairly
rubs out competition, but because of the fact that they can utterly fail to
deliver any level of quality service, and the dissatisfied user that
attempts to leave ends up spending more than the computer would have cost
in the first place.
