Thank you Roger! I was going to stay out of this thread, but I can no longer
resist.
If Steve Jobs was not so greedy for power and control of MAC OS, we would
all probably be running that. He wanted to keep such a tight leash on it
that no one wanted to work with Apple. Bill Gates, on the other hand, sold
tools to anyone that had a checkbook or credit card so they could write
programs for Windows.
And everyone wrote programs for Windows. I have heard numbers as high as
10,000,000 programs for Windows are available (shareware, freeware and
commercial programs included). No other OS can claim even 1% of this (maybe
if you combined all the flavors of *NIX...).
For the first time in 25 years of computing, I can go to a store and look
for a particular logo on a box and know this program will run on my
computer. This is a concept that is 20 years late in coming. I am now not
afraid to tell my mother or mother-in-law that they should own a computer
because they are no longer hard to learn and use. And they love their
computers!
We can all hate Micro$oft all we want, and complain about the standards they
have forced on us. They may be substandard standards, BUT WE HAVE STANDARDS!
>From an IT standpoint, we are an all NT shop. I have no regrets for this and
I have no plans to change.
Thank you Ipswitch for Imail. You have taken all the best of NT and made a
mail server that cannot be compared to in my opinion. In the three years we
have used Imail, it has only grown better.
Microsoft is far from perfect, but in my opinion, they are better than the
other choices at the moment.
