I wasn't moderating... just pointing out that while the word "ridiculous"
may have been unfortunate, the counterattack was not good.

I also added some parameters to assist with a search for useful info.

I see no reason why a response to a question cannot be "search the
archives". It would take quite a while to write up a summary of everything
that's in the archives on a subject, so by informing of the archives and
giving some parameters for a search, we help the newbie.

As someone else stated, "teach a man to fish..."

Hi,

>> but for such frequently asked questions, the archives are your best
friend. <<

I've often encountered that problem myself. I visit a new list/forum in
search for an answer - and since I am new, I would have no way of KNOWING,
which questions are frequently asked and which ones are pretty unique.

So, for someone who is not the assigned moderator to butt into a productive
conversation between two list members who are clearly helping one another,
and chastising them for not realizing that their particular topic had been
discussed before, is not exactly displaying showing much etiquette either.

Besides, most of the conversations on support lists are probably FAQs (very
few are truly entirely new problems that no one ever saw before.)

There is always the option to unsubscribe from this list or switch to digest
mode, if one does not wish to see new users participate and sharing typical
"newbie" info.

Best Regards

Jim,

Sandy is one of the most helpful individuals on the list, and has provided
much in-depth assistance and free tools to IMail users. The reason he and
other may say check the archives is that a quick search would show that this
has been discussed time and time again, and many tools and scripts have
already been posted.

I've posted IMail user export scripts twice this year, and their are other
tools for which links have been posted as well, so if you take a moment to
looks through the archives, you should be able to find them in less time
than it takes someone to find them on their hard drive and post.

Please don't take this as being difficult, but for such frequently asked
questions, the archives are your best friend.

Darin.
