>I have set smtp security to "relay for local users only".
This is totally unreliable as a anti-spam tactic, since any half-@ssed
spammer can spoof both the "Mail from:(some user of Leo's)" and/or spoof
the sending ip address to send spam through your server.
The only reasonable setup is "relay for (your inside trusted) addresses"
and then "SMTP AUTH" will be required for all your mail box owners in their
mail client programs.
"relay for addresses" is still not totally secure due to ip spoofing by
spammers (they almost never use valid sending ip address, so why not use
Leo's ip's?? vbg), so at your border router, block traffic coming from the
outside that is saying that it is coming from your inside, trusted addresses.

no, it gets bounced back.
>or is it lost forever?
it gets bounced back or not even accepted at all.
If you're really interested in what gets bounced or rejected, check your
Imail logs, SYSmmdd.txt for the "SMTPD" lines, it's the SMTPD server
processes that receive incoming mail and are responsible for enforcing your
anti-spam policies.
