Philip,
All IMail applications are good at 'sharing' resources, so it is possible an
app could show high CPU usage, but it should not affect (or have only minor
effects) overall performance of your system. The only times I have seen
IAdmin use a lot of CPU is when it opens (it is reading a lot of data) and
if LDAP needs 'Optimize'ing, when IAdmin closes (can still be seen in Task
Manager, after closing).
As for IMail.exe (the IMail Client), I would not recommend it be used on the
server, except for very specific purposes (troubleshooting). It is also VERY
important that when using IMail Client on the server, that you do NOT fill
out any of the POP3 section, when attempting to login to a local user
account. Just select the Domain and user from the drop down lists, then
click OK. Entering data into the 'Mailbox' area (instead of selecting from
the drop down lists), can cause the client to 'create' a new account and
that can be harmful (but not to CPU util), but is not fatal. Once you select
the domain and user, IMail.exe will begin to read the mailbox file
(main.mbx) and that can cause 100% CPU util, but again, this will drop to
normal once the mailbox is fully opened (bigger mailbox will mean longer
time at high CPU). Exiting can cause the mailbox to be re-written, and that
too can cause high CPU, but again, it will share and drop back to normal.
I think you need to tell us more about what you mean when you say 'slow
down'. While the app is opening/closing and CPU is high, that app (and
others that may be open) may have reduced performance, but the effects on
the SMTP/POP3 and other services should be hardly noticable.
