The Lowest tech way to "fail over" is to run a 3rd party software such as
Legato standby server. Veritas has a fail over software as well. This is
NOT load balance, it is Burning an entire server just in case the primary
server fails. It will automatically takeover if the primary server fails.

That was not my understanding of what he wanted. I thought he meant a
mirrored system (identical users on each box) with automatic failover
(seamless, invisible), which is neither a backup spooler (missing user
accounts) nor a peer (different user accounts). But perhaps I was wrong.
I see nothing wrong with the options you describe.
