What are you talking about?
IMail does do fail over...all you have to do is setup the 2nd server as a
Backup Spooler server. If one server goes down the mail will be sent to the
other server until the 1st server is back up. This is why you have to have
a full system tape backup of the server regardless of what you do but at
least with a Backup Server there is a fail over solution until you fully
restore the primary server.
If load balancing is an issue then Peering is offered with IMail, so that
both servers will run at the same time with different users on each server.
This option can't be done with the NT database option, so I'm setting mine
up as a Backup Server per Ipswitch's instructions, but both options should
have a full system tape backup as a method for disaster recovery.

There is no easy or cheap way to do this. This problem has been
discussed from time to time on the list, but it really is not an IMail
problem :-) IMail does not do peering in this sense of the word. You
have two choices: (1) be prepared to restore system, registry, and
mailboxes from a backup tape to a new server in case of disaster. (2)
Use third-party software/hardware to "mirror" the entire IMail server on
a second unit. IMail will not make a switchover if the server goes
down--you'll have to do that on your own, presumably changing the IP
address of the new box to that of the old so your clients and the
outside world won't notice the switch. I have not spent any efforts
determining how this might be done, trusting in option (1) myself. It's
more of an NT or router question for option (2).
