For the year that I used AT&T dial-up with my external websites, I can say
for sure using Outlook, Eudora or anything else, if you have your external
server's e-mail address as the from, AT&T will still send your mail with the
proper from address; that which you setup in your e-mail program.

But yes, I had the problem with my laptop where when I was outside of the
office, I had to manually change my settings to another smtp server when
sending my mail.

There are a few ways around this but neither of them are fun.

1. change it everytime you move, if you find you can't send mail, check your
settings.

2. Setup two e-mail accounts with the same name and "from" address but
different smtp servers. Setup only one of those to login and get mail. When
away from AT&T dialup, switch to the non-AT&T smtp account when sending
mail. I don't know if this is as easily possible on any Wintel E-mail
programs but it's extremely easy on the Outlook Express 5 for the Mac.

3. Get a different ISP. One that doesn't charge 21.95/month if you don't
have AT&T Long Distance Service.

I found it interesting that on 5/30/00 2:02 PM [EMAIL PROTECTED] said:
