I had
this problem with IMail 5.x. To solve the problem I had to schedule the SMTP
service to reset every hour with an AT command.
The
symptoms were that none of my customers could send. The SMTP service showed that
it was running. After resetting the service everything is fine.
We
also have a memory leak problem with just about all IMail services. I have to
reset them every night. You might want to check your available bytes before you
restart your server the next time your have this problem. You may be running out
of memory.
Another hunch I have that may be causing this problem
is a host that uses an NT database. It seemed to cause a lot of problems for us
after we set one up. We since moved it to another IMail server with an
evaluation copy of 6.02. It hasn't had a problem. One thing to keep in mind with
this configuration (with NT DB host) is that all IMail services have to log on
with the system account. I was afraid to remove the AT commands that reset the
SMTP service though to prove this was causing my problem.
I
ordered IMail 6.02 and plan on installing it shortly. Hopefully, this will
correct our problem. I'll be interested if you find a solution to your SMTP
problem.
