Because, as we see here every week, Imail admins don't close their open
relay. Imail default intalls as open relay. I think sendmail also default
installs as open relay. postfix initially installed as open relay, but
that changed to default closed about last autumn, I think.
As you can see in the RBL and MAPS RSS databases, there are tons of mail
servers, 10's of 1000's, running as open relay. Cleary, open realy is not
a weakness of Imail. All mail servers can be configured as open relay.

"relay for addresses" plus SMTP AUTH is the best way to go. Are you having
difficulty implementing that?

Remove the nobody alias and mail for unknownuser@knowndomain will be
rejected.
nobody alias accepts all mail for unknownuser@knowndomain.
Mail for anybody@unknowndomain is always rejected.
