But most of us have decided the the manual is wrong, in saying the 
official should be mail.domain.com and alias of domain.com.

In practice, it's much better official host is domain.com and host 
alias is mail.domain.com.  (Dustin: I repeat this for newby lurkers, 
not for you. :)))
