It is way out of date to say the least. But updating it would be so for the same
reason you would generally want to first of all it would fix allot of the known
security flaws in the old code and the added features part the only thing that I know
for sure is that with BIND 8 it supports dynamic updates for records.

I notice that many people here talk about Bind 8 (Hi Len) which I have
downloaded and looked over quite a bit.
I am currently running Bind for NT (from software.com) version 4.9.5 or
whatever the latest version is. Why would I want to switch to the bind 8
version? Is this an upgrade to the same version of Bind that I am running
or is this a different flavor? Is mine THAT far out of date?
It was hard enough to figure out Bind for NT the first time. Bind 8 looks
quite a bit different and uses less English then the 4.9.5 version.
Anyone have any input for those of us that are DNS stupid?
