The virus scanner isn't necessary for the mail server itself.  It is,
however, a helper application to keep viruses off of the users machine.  We
were recently overrun by the navidad virus.  Even with desktop virus
software running, most of the infected e-mails got through and were opened.
At one point, we had 120 users infected and each infected machine trying to
send out copies of the virus.

I basically want to catch the problem before it gets to the user.
