I'm not much of a networking guru. A Mac User best describes me. LOL

Wow .. You make it sound like if someone is a Mac user they don't know networking. I run a combined Mac / NT / Wireless network and am also in charge of our Australian campus and Japan Office .. The Japan office has all IBM Compatible clients ranging from 95 to 2000 and are all connected to a Mac server .. The clients here at the NZ campus are 90% Mac and connect to Mainly Mac servers but I also have 5 NT servers. The latest server edition is the new IMail server (NT) of course but being a mail server it makes no difference ( well minor difference for the WebMail) But Mac's use TCP/IP the same as any windows machine.

I learned IBM Compatible from back in the days of DOS which most people call "Denial Of Service" now but then they both have much the same effect :) but am now a Mac convert. You here the admins complaining about all these virii they are having trouble with and I just smile to myself. Although there are Mac virii around as an admin I am comfortable with the fact that it takes me far less time to worry about the Mac's on Campus than the PC's in the Aus Campus or Japan office.

Firewall is handled by a Cisco IP/Firewall router which sits in front of an NT server running MS Proxy which in turn is connected to by a Mac Server running NAT software / DHCP etc.
A Hacker would have to get past the Cisco, past the Proxy then they hit a Mac and go Arrrrrrrrrrgh  ... hehehehe

My advice : Don't be scared to stand up and Proclaim yourself a Mac user. I am and proud of it.
