I am a new IMail admin. We have an internet provider who put an entry for
our email domain (mail.uhsweb.com) in their DNS table. When we changed from
Exchange to IMail, I changed machines and simply (yeah, right!) swapped the
IP addresses of the two machines, so the DNS entry now pointed to my new
machine. Most everything works (you got this email, right?), but I am having
trouble with a few email systems.
I think the problem might revolve around the fact that our real IP addresses
resolve to the name of our email provider (say, Whosit.net), so that when my
email server tries an SMTP connect to another SMTP server, it connects as
MyServer.Whosit.Net instead of our email domain. They can't resolve the IP
address to my server's internal network name, which IMail wants to use, so
they drop the connection.
Is there a simple way around this? I did not have this trouble with
Exchange, but figure that it might have handled this itself.
Thanks,
Joseph Marlin
