RedHat and several other Linux vendors use RPMs to distribute updates. You
can download and install the packages very simply. If you are using the
packages provided by the vendor they will provide updates when there are
security problems. For a server just running bind there won't be any
problem with updated RPMs. You can also automate updates with RedHat and
some others.

Excellent point. Given the available equipment, Linux may be the best
performer. Another person mentioned that I should go ahead and learn Linux
or other Unix variant. I do have a beginner's knowledge of Linux, so that's
a start. My concern has been upkeep, as it takes experience and not
paper-learning to solve day-to-day anomalies. Once set up, how much trouble
should I expect from the box and how hard (on average) is it to keep up with
patches and hotfixes?
