Your correct, but you should be able to service Webmail, Imail, IIS, SQL on
a single machine with about 512MB.  Thats where I would start, thats about
$200.00 of the best quality RAM.  Yes I know its a high estimate but I
always play it safe.

Increased use of the swap file will not only bog the machine down, make it
less reliable, but it will shorten the life of the drive and cause more
heat.

I personally wouldn't load multiple services on one machine, personal
preference.  But you can't always afford to separate your services.  The big
ones here in the list above is SQL server and IIS.  I find Imail very
efficient for what it does.  But again if its a high volume site/server then
one machine will not cut it.  But if its low volume no problem.
