Okay guys, I need some help from all of you gurus.
Here is my setup:
Web Server / iMail Server: Pentium III 750 Mhz, 1 Gig RAM, RAID 5 SCSI
Drives, Win2k SP1
DNS Server / Proxy Server: Pentium II 333, 64 Megs RAM, IDE Drives, WinNT 4
SP6a
Connection: 1.5mbps T1
Okay, after you stop laughing at my DNS server, please read on...
Done? Okay good.
We are launching a new site on Tuesday, but not until we find out why our
sites are loading so slow. With a DSL or T1 our main site: www.InfoDish.com
can take almost 30 seconds to load! But, mail.InfoDish.com loads instantly.
Here is my hunch. And before I go drop some cash on my DNS server please let
me know if this is true.
www.InfoDish.com loads so slow because the DNS server (which double's as a
proxy server) is overloaded. mail.InfoDish.com loads fast because it's just
forwarding to an IP address which doesn't need to be resolved. So, upgrading
my DNS server should fix the problem, right?
If so, what do I need to add to my DNS server? If not, what's happening to
my servers!!!
Also, if I load a page using the UNC path to the web server the pages load
instantly. Is this because I'm bypassing the DNS server, or because I'm
bypassing IIS?
Instead of upgrading my DNS server, can I just run DNS off the web server?
