the latest version of NAVIEG (2.5.1.6) can be set
to relay for addresses only and now you can input ranges of ip addresses which
makes administration a whole lot easier. I'm not saying it is perfect but i am
confident it will now plug my open realy problem and virus scanning requirements
until i can get Len's Imgate online to be my gatekeeper.
I had to stop the server copy of NAV from scanning
the NAVIEG spool queue but other than that it now seens to wrk OK.
My only bugbear with symantec was the fact that
they did not inform any one that NAVIEG would not be able to stop sircam and
when i contacted their support staff they were not very forth coming even
though the new program had been written 5 hours before i rang
them.
From following the threads on the list it would
appear that NAVIEG is not the cheapest solution (Declude seems to be the best
bang for bucks) but the NAVIEG does come free as part of the NAV corperate
package, so if you are paying to protect your client PC's and servers it may be
worth looking at.
