I have seen this before, on a server running 6.06 I believe.

That is normal.  The certificate you use will have little effect on how the 
SSL performs.  It could effect how the SSL is handled by the remote 
browser, but won't normally cause any server-side issues.

That, too, is normal.  The port used won't make a difference as to how well 
the code works.

Again, normal.  The problem appears to be with the code on the server.  The 
initial SSL code in IMail wasn't fully up to par (I haven't checked it out 
lately, though).  The http://www.stunnel.org solution (freeware) that I 
mentioned earlier replaces all the IMail SSL code, and will take care of 
the problem.
